🌊🤿 DEEP DIVE: Apple Watch EKG/ECG—When & How to Use It

I am an Apple Watch expert after writing guides, how-to articles, and testing every app, feature, and accessory I’ve managed to get my hands on. Despite this, I still learn something new on a regular basis, because there is SO much to this small device! I’ve compiled a list of the most commonly asked questions I’ve received and common Google searches.

1. How can I minimize Liquid Glass to improve readability?

Open Settings on your Apple Watch and tap Accessibility. Scroll until you see Reduce Transparency and toggle that on.

2. How do I change my Apple Watch band?

The back of your Apple Watch has little, flat buttons next to the top and bottom where the band slides into the watch. Push a button while simultaneously sliding the band out to remove it. Brand-new bands or ones you’ve worn for months can be tougher to remove or put on.

3. How do I track my steps on my Apple Watch?

While it doesn’t focus on step count, your Apple Watch will track your steps by default. You can check how many steps you’ve taken in a day by tapping on your Activity app (the one that shows the three rings) and scrolling down until you see today’s steps, distance, and flights climbed. You can use a third-party app to add steps to your watch face, allowing you to see them at a glance.

4. How do I silence my Apple Watch?

You can turn off the ringer or turn on a Focus mode via your watch’s Control Center. You can also silence your watch by covering it with the palm of your hand. Go to the Gestures settings to enable this feature.

5. How do I find my Apple Watch when it goes missing?

If you have set up Find My on your iPhone, you can find your Apple Watch using the Find My app on another device or by signing into your iCloud account on someone else’s device. If your watch is nearby, you can also ping it with your iPhone via the Control Center.

6. Why is my Apple Watch not updating?

To update your watch, first go to the Watch app on your iPhone. Tap General, then Software Update, then install the update. Next, make sure your Apple Watch is on its charger and is over 50% charged. You’ll need to agree to the update on your watch as well, so if you’ve gone through the steps on your phone, unlock your watch, and you’ll get an update confirmation request.

7. Can you use an Apple Watch without an iPhone?

An Apple Watch has to be paired to an iPhone to work, but if you have a cellular watch with a paid cellular plan, you can use your watch to make calls and use the internet even if you left your phone behind.

8. What is the newest Apple Watch?

In September 2025, Apple released three new Apple Watch models . These include the Apple Watch 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch SE 3. We can expect one or more new models in the fall of 2026.
